Panasonic DMC-TS25D Review

Panasonic DMC-TS25D review

Despite there being no shortage of different types of digital cameras to choose from, things get a little different when it comes to waterproof, or ‘adventurous’ cameras. We don’t mean to say there aren’t many waterproof cameras on the market, though. But apparently, most of them seem to be offering pretty much the same things, which may or may not turn out to be enough depending on your use.

That being said, the Panasonic DMC-TS25D seems to be standing out from the rest. It not only seems to be as tough as a waterproof camera actually needs to be, but also comes with a whole lot of other additional features that you just couldn’t expect from a camera specifically designed for shooting underwater.

It’s probably worth checking out what the Panasonic DMC-TS25D has to offer if you’re looking to get yourself a waterproof digital camera. The below given seem to be some of the most highlighting points of this camera, which includes both positive and negative things about it.

As tough as it should be!

First things first, toughness always tends to be one of the most important factors when it comes to waterproof cameras. After all, if you’re going to use one for all type of adventurous stuff, it definitely needs to have what it takes to hold up in such conditions.

We have read several customer reviews, and most of them point out that the Panasonic DMC-TS25D is surprisingly tough and holds up pretty well in all type of conditions. It’s waterproof, shockproof, and freezeproof to a significant extent.

Some customers also point out that it didn’t get damaged even after being dropped several times, so the level of durability it brings to the table is simply unquestionable.

Takes amazing underwater shots

Well, we know a waterproof camera is obviously supposed to take good shots underwater. However, the reason we think it’s one of the most important features of the Panasonic DMC-TS25D is because the quality of pictures it takes underwater seems to be exceptional, especially in this price range.

Most other waterproof cameras you would see in this price range may not offer the same quality of shots, especially when they are put to use in various different conditions. The Panasonic DMC-TS25D, however, has been tested by several customers who have used it in almost every condition you can imagine using it in, and the shots almost always turned out to be just as good.

The only time you would probably have to use it a little differently to achieve the same quality of shots is while shooting in murky/dirty water. It would still take great shots, though, but it would require you to be a little closer to your subject than usual.

However, that’s more than reasonable, especially given the price it’s being offered at and the consistency with which it shoots in almost all type of conditions.

Great for above the water shots as well

Now this is where the Panasonic DMC-TS25D gives even some of the more expensive waterproof cameras on the market a run for their money. The quality of above the water shots has apparently been one of the biggest disappointments as far as most other waterproof cameras are concerned.

This is probably due to the fact that there are pretty much only focused on taking underwater shots, and hence, disappoint when it comes to taking above the water shots.

The Panasonic DMC-TS25D, however, doesn’t fail to surprise on this front as well. It takes great shots above the water, almost as good as to blow you away if you had been using some other waterproof camera before.

Furthermore, it’s also quite convenient to switch between taking underwater and above the water shots. In fact, you don’t have to do any changes to the settings or wait even for a second. You can simply alternate between the shots and the pictures taken above the water would still come out great, without any marks of water drops on them.

This is because the Panasonic DMC-TS25D is designed in such a way that it sloughs off the water as soon as you pull it out from the water. Although it may not really seem a big deal to you now, it would definitely turn out to be quite useful when you actually need to do a lot of underwater and above the water shooting at the same time.

Excellent battery life

We have also come across customer reviews mentioning that they took hundreds of pictures with this thing before the battery ran out. This is again a big plus compared to some of the other waterproof cameras in the same price range.

The battery of most such cameras isn’t really designed to take a lot of shots, and hence, they don’t last long during heavy use. The Panasonic DMC-TS25D’s battery, however, seems to be lasting for 2-3 days easily even with moderate to heavy use.

Other features

Well, there actually seems to be a lot more to it, but we are going to limit ourselves to covering the most highlighting features of the product. However, let us mention some of the other important features in short.

  • Reasonably good video quality for a waterproof camera
  • Great 8x Intelligent Zoom
  • Has a time lapse mode
  • Additional features allow taking great shots even during the night time

Don’t expect a lot!

Although this isn’t really a downside that we are talking about, it’s something you need to know. There are customers who didn’t seem happy with the product because the quality of the pictures didn’t really please them.

Well, this is a budget camera, and also a waterproof one. Don’t expect it to function like the high-end ones priced at upwards of $500.

Having said that, the quality of pictures it produces would probably turn out to be better than most of the waterproof cameras you would have ever come across unless they were very expensive ones. However, don’t expect all the shots to come out perfect, although almost all of them wouldn’t fail to please you given your expectations are reasonable.

A final word

Although they say that you get what you pay for, with the Panasonic DMC-TS25D, you actually seem to be getting a lot more than what you pay for. As far as our verdict is concerned, it would be a hard job finding a better “all-round” waterproof camera than this one, especially in this price range.
